Welcome to our site
Welcome to our first Old World Charleston blog post!
We are so excited to launch this business. It has been years in the making.
Carrie and I have always enjoyed thrifting, auctioning, discovering, and enjoying the items you see in our collection and for sale.
We know not everyone can take the hours to find and research the history behind pieces like these and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to do that for you.
We welcome your questions about our collection, items you're very interested in finding, and even your stories about how a particular piece brings back memories. We see so many pieces that we recognize from our childhood or from grandparents' houses. It really can be a walk down memory lane.
One of the things we hope to do in this forum is highlight the history of some of the treasures you'll find on this site and in our store. While we're certainly not experts in all areas and topics, we have learned a lot over the years and are happy to share it with you.
For our first blog, we'd like to share some of the history of Boopie Glass.
Commonly referred to as Boopie Glass, this pattern was part Anchor Hocking's line from the 1950's to the 1970’s. The original, and more correct name is Berwick Glass and it is recognized by small glass marbles or spheres surrounding the base or pedestal of each piece.
Don't confuse Boopie Glass with Candlewick. With Boopie Glass the glass marbles all touch each other while in Candlewick there is a space in between each sphere.
Anchor Hocking was one of the most popular manufacturers of Depression Glass and has a storied history all their own in American Glass manufacturing.
Besides being fun to say, Boopie Glass is an easy find to recognize at a yard sale, thrift store, or antique store. It really is a piece of American heritage and we have quite a few items for you to view and, if you love it like we do, make it yours.
